Readers with precision-run households may find my introduction as the "RunAmok Mama" a tad alarming, so I'd like to offer a quick assurance that my life is more an exercise of controlled chaos than sheer pandemonium! Most of the time.
Nestled deep in the wild paradise of Northern Idaho rests our modest homestead. Throughout the seasons, our free-range children, dogs, goats, chickens, rabbits and various farm critters vie for attention under the stunning mountain backdrop. While that mountaintop calls my name daily, much of my time is a modern bustle, making me long for a 36 hour day. A country girl at heart, there is little to rival the view from atop the highest peak after hiking half the day to get there! I feel most at peace when I can dig my hands into the dirt, breathe deeply of the clear mountain air, and sit silently as deer, elk and even moose pass less than a stone-toss away. To slightly side-track here for a moment... I won't lie. I have a love/hate relationship with the moosen - Of all the wildlife, those mama moose can be pretty ornery - and for some reason, maybe because my Maker has a sense of humor, I am a built-in moose-magnet. I wasn't always active, and in my 20's and 30's would have been hard-pressed to hike with this 40-something mama of today. After our fourth child, I was so obese I could barely walk up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. The idea I could one day enjoy hiking 5 - 10 miles, over rough terrain while carrying a pack - unbelievable! I studied nutrition for years, but was still missing important pieces of the health-puzzle. After facing serious health issues, I knew I needed a miracle. When an online friend shared her personal book review of the original "Trim Healthy Mama", it caught my attention, so I contacted her (THANK YOU, Gwen!) Nothing else had been sustainable for me, so in spite of assurances, I started with much skepticism. Within weeks, I knew I had found what I'd been searching decades for! You can read MY TRIM HEALTHY MAMA JOURNEY for details, but whatever you take away from your visit here, I pray this will instill hope if you have been struggling! Being fit is not just for mamas! Bringing the family or friends along in the pursuit of better health and fitness can be an adventure - whether walking around the block, biking, swimming, jogging, cross-country hiking, hunting, skiing, or going to the gym. Get moving! I just heard some readers groan... Don't worry! It doesn't have to be much, and believe it or not, it can be fun! Even a small amount of exercise everyday will vastly improve your health - and build relationships, too! You can even take this to the next level with your pets, as it goes hand in hand with what we have been practicing for generations in our dogs! Our naturally-reared ARCTIC SPITZ fit the bill as "Trim & Healthy" Canines - yours can too! |
